Danske Bank Ennis Cup final

Wednesday 12.30pm in Tullylish

Lismore Comprehensive v St Patrick’s Banbridge

LISMORE Comprehensive are hoping that they can use the hurt from the Paddy O’Hara Cup final defeat to Holy Cross Strabane last month to motivate a younger group in the school to kift the Danske Bank Ennis Cup in Tullylish this afternoon.

It is a derby fixture with St. Patrick’s College Banbridge and Lismore will start slight favourites, having come through a tougher side of the draw.

They beat St Killian’s Garron Tower in the quarter-final by 2-12 to 2-6 and then edged out St Benedict’s by a point.

Goalkeeper Luke Mulholland has been a key player in these games, with the experience of winning an Ennis Cup already and also an Irish News Cup from two years ago.

Others prominent in the run have been Shea Jackson, midfielders Liam Hughes and Kevin McConville and Craig Robinson and Odhran McMullan up front.

St Patrick’s qualified from the Downpatrick area blitz and then went on to defeat Cross and Passion, Ballycastle in the quarter final on a 3-6 to 1-5 scoreline.

Although they conceded 6-6 to Lagan College in the semi-final a week ago, the forwards were pretty accurate and ran home an impressive 4-18.

Their key players in the run to the final have been the Annaclone trio of Aaron Devlin at full-back, captain Liam McClorey at midfield and Aodhan Heenan at centre-forward along with defender Ruairi Andrews from Clann na Banna and James Fegan the other midfielder who will be playing on his home pitch.

Lismore’s challenge has been built on a tight defence, while Banbridge have been able to overcome defensive frailities with an exciting attack. It will be close, but Lismore might just be able to subdue that attack and pick up enough scores to pass the test.
