Wins In MacRory For Donaghmore And Dungannon
Tyrone schools made it three wins inside twenty four hours in the MacRory Cup as following on from Omagh CBS’s win on Wednesday both St.Josephs Donaghmore and St.Patricks Academy Dungannon followed suit on Thursday afternoon.
Donaghmore travelled to Celtic Park to take on Cathair Doire and they won on a 1-14 to 2-8 scoreline. An Adam Cushnahan goal coupled with points from Oisin Cullen and Cushnahan gave the winners a healthy 1-8 to 0-4 cushion at halftime. Two goals from Rossa Fleming and Cillian Ferguson brought the Derry school right back into contention but points from Daire Devlin, Odhran Coleman and Cushnahan saw Donaghmore deservedly coming out on top.
The Academy made it two wins out of two when they got the better of St.Marys Magherafelt at Newbridge, 4-10 to 2-10. Darragh Devlin got an early goal for the winners but it was only after Shea McCann had found the net for the Derry lads. Magherafelt then moved four points in front but goals from Davin McKeown and another one from Devlin coupled with a McKeown two pointer left the Academy leading 3-5 to 1-6 at the break.
Tony O’Hagan and McCann exchanged points with Liam McGeary and James Mulgrew on the restart before Peter Coleman narrowed the gap. Eoin Long and Charlie Maguire had Academy points but a penalty from McCann cut the deficit to two going into injury time. Dungannon though saw the game out thanks to a goal from substitute Ruairi O’Neill coupled with a second Mulgrew point.
