St Louis and St Killian’s reach Gallagher Cup semis
May 24, 2017Danske Bank Gallagher Cup quarter-finals
St Killian’s Garron Tower 5-9 St Patrick’s Maghera 0-5
St Louis Ballymena 4-8 Divis Schools 0-6
An early goal from Ciaran Magill and then a goal rush midway through the opening half settled the Danske Bank Gallagher Cup quarter-final in Ballymena yesterday before it even had a chance to catch fire.
Maghera responded to Magill’s early strike with points for Shea Cassidy and Jamie Duggan, but Gabriel Leech fired in a 12th minute goal and Colm McKeegan followed that with two more St Killian goals.
Close to half-time Leech also grabbed a second goal and the Tower were comfortably ahead 5-3 to 0-4 for the turnover.
Scores slowed up during the second half, as Jody McDermott and Shea Cassidy worked hard to stem the push forward from St Killian’s, but the damage had been done and the Tower side will now play St Mary’s Belfast in the semi-final.
The other semi-final will be a north Antrim derby with St Louis Ballymena yesterday overcoming Divis Schools to progress to a meeting with Cross and Passion Ballycastle.
Divis led by 0-6 to 0-2 at the break and were good value for that lead with four scores from Daire Cunningham.
However Colla McDonnell hit the net early in the second half and that kick-started a push from St Louis that saw them go on to record a 4-8 to 0-6 victory.
McDonnell went on to complete his hat-trick, with Ryan Mort also registering a goal
