Omagh CBS 2-9 St.Ronan’s Lurgan 1-7

Omagh CBS maintained their push for a top two finish in their MacRory Cup group when they had five points to spare over St.Ronan’s Lurgan at St.Pauls on Wednesday afternoon for a result that eliminates the Armagh school from this year’s competition.

The winners couldn’t have wished for a better start as Thomas Meenan finished in style low to the net inside thirty seconds. St.Ronans responded with points from Brogan McCrory and team Captain Conal Wilson but Omagh eased further in front thanks to scores from Meenan, Harley Patton, Diarmuid Martin and Vincent Lowry. As the half approached though a flowing move resulted in a palmed goal from Ronan O’Connor to cut the deficit to the minimum, 1-5 to 1-4.

The second half was only two minutes old when Martin blasted the ball to the roof of the net and that was followed by a superb two pointer from Meenan. Lurgan though refused to accept defeat and points from McCrory and Eoin Brankin saw them cut the deficit back to three. They failed to score again though as Omagh closed out the game with a brilliant brace from substitute Peter Colton.
