⬛️🟨🟥 Abbey CBS 3-12 V 🟩⬛  Colaiste Mhuire, Mullingar 1-23 (AET)

Abbey CBS missed out on a spot in the Hogan Cup final after a heart breaking semi-final defeat to Coláiste Mhuire, Mullingar. The Abbey looked in a good position during the second half, but the threat of two-pointers at the other end was too much.

Captain Diarmaid O’Rourke, man of the match in the MacRory Cup final, was outstanding. He kicked 1-4 on the day and won two penalties, which were both netted by Charlie McGrath.

O’Rourke traded scores with the opposition early on before the Westmeath side went 3-1 up. Jack O’Mahoney pulled one back for the Abbey, who then rattled the net for the first time.

McGrath stepped up to slot home from the spot while Daniel Carr pushed them three ahead. Two points from Mulligan narrowed the gap but they were cancelled out by an O’Rourke two-point free, leaving the Abbey 1-5 to 0-5 ahead.

Carr’s point was matched at the other end while a brace of two-pointers from Mulligan pushed them one up. O’Rourke levelled matters while O’Mahoney grabbed a second, but the Leinster champions grabbed another two-pointer.

O’Rourke buried a second goal for his side before Daniel McKernan raised two white flags from dead ball efforts. Mullingar nailed three of the last four-points, while Carr split the posts, with the sides tied 2-10 to 0-16 at the full time whistle.

Mullingar nailed the first two scores of extra time before McGrath rattled the net from another penalty. Fergus Toale fisted over from close range while McKernan kicked the MacRory Cup champions three ahead.

Mullingar were the dominant team after the interval and rallied to a five-point victory. They claimed their first goal of the day and another two-pointer to see themselves through to the Hogan Cup final.

Abbey Scorers: Diarmaid O’Rourke 1-4 (1tpf), Charlie McGrath 2-0 (2 pens), Daniel Carr 0-3, Jack O’Mahoney 0-2, Daniel McKernan 0-2, Fergus Toale 0-1.
