St Michael’s Enniskillen 2-3 St Patrick’s Maghera 0-8
St Michael’s Enniskillen pulled off a major shock in the first semi-final of the Danske Bank Rannafast Cup in Carrickmore yesterday afternoon. An injury time goal from Eimhin Curran knocked out holders St Patrick’s Maghera – but that score didn’t end the drama of a heart-stopping four minutes of injury-time.
Enda Downey responded with his fourth point of the game and then with the last move of the game, Maghera opened up the Enniskillen defence. However with a goal at their mercy they hit the side-netting.
Ultimately St Michael’s got their reward for adopting a defensive formation and breaking with pace. They frustrated Maghera in the opening half, restricting them to a single point from Jarlath McWilliams and scoring three of their own through Eimhin Curran and Darragh McBride (2).
Maghera were the better team for most of the second half opening with four points in a row, two of them from Enda Downey. However they couldn’t shake Enniskillen off and the first turning point arrived in the 48th minute.
Maghera looked to have strong claims for a penalty at one end, but Enniskillen broke quickly and Josh Largo-Ellis fired in a goal at the other to put St Michael’s a point up.
Maghera regained the lead with points from Downey and PJ McAleese before the injury-time drama turned everything on its head once more.
