Academy power past Holy Trinity and into Quarter Finals
December 10, 2021
St. Patrick’s Academy Dungannon produced their best performance of the 2021/22 Danske Bank MacRory Cup to date as they powered past Holy Trinity College Cookstown last night and into the Quarter Finals.
Infront of a big crowd at An Eaglais Naomh Pádraig, the winners laid the foundations for their win in the first quarter, when they led by 1-7 to 0-1 after 15 minutes. The goal came from Enda O’Donnell, with Ben Cullen and Fiacra Nelis landing fine scores from distance.
Dungannon stretched that lead further on the restart, James Quinn firing a penalty to the back of the Cookstown net to put them 11 points ahead. Holy Trinity finally shook themselves after the water break, with Blaine Ryan landing a couple of points before Ryan Quinn palmed the ball to the net after a great team move. That left the half time score 2-9 to 1-5.
Holy Trinity made a number of changes at Half Time as they chased the game, and they landed the first two points of the half through Shea Quinn but that was as close as they got. Ardboe O’Donovan Rossa star Cormac Devlin kicked two great scores to keep Cookstown at bay, and the Dungannon men had to rely on goalkeeper Niall Robinson to make two outstanding saves to maintain their advantage. A late penalty for Holy Trinity was blasted over the bar by Shea Quinn to compound a disappointing evening for Holy Trinity who will regroup ahead of the quarter finals in the new year.
