Goal blitz puts Lismore into McAvoy Cup final
April 23, 2018Danske Bank McAvoy Cup semi-final
Lismore Craigavon 5-18 St. Mark’s Warrenpoint 0-14
A DEVASTATING ten minute spell just after the first quarter left St Mark’s Warrenpoint reeling in this Danske Bank McAvoy Cup semi-final in Mullaghbrack yesterday and set up a Lismore Comprehensive v Holy Cross Strabane final for the start of next week.
A 16th minute penalty from Liam Toman started a four goals and three points blitz leaving no way back for the south Down school. That goal was quickly followed by a goal and two points from Conor Byrne, a green flag for Anton McParland and then Byrne hit a fourth goal for Lismore.
By half-time St Mark’s earlier good work had been undone and they trailed by 4-8 to 0-8 and Lismore were in the driving seat.
The Craigavon side pushed on after the break with some fine points from Enda Mallon and Rory McShane and their fifth goal from Aidan Tennyson was the icing on the cake.
Jamie Cahill had a superb game for St Mark’s, as did full-back Jack Connell and goalie Stefan Glymond, but the likes of Conor Byrne, Mallon and McShane made sure they were kept under plenty of pressure.
Elsewhere and St Columban’s Stranorlar are through to the semi-finals of the Danske Bank Faul Cup with a 7-5 to 5-6 win over St Patrick’s College Dungannon.
