St Joseph’s Coalisland Claim Pat King Trophy

Danske Bank Pat King Cup
St Joseph’s Coalisland 2-17 Gael Scoil Dun Geimhin 2-14

St Joseph’s Coalisland lifted the Pat King trophy on Tuesday afternoon when they narrowly defeated Gael Scoil Dun Geimhin at Garvaghy on a scoreline of 2-17 to 2-14.

There was little between the two sides throughout but Coalisland’s superb third quarter display when they came from five down to lead by2-13 to 1-10 was highly significant in the final outcome. Both teams enjoyed periods of control and supremacy with key players outstanding for their sides.

Dungiven led at the break 1-10 to 1-5 with their goal coming from a converted Sean Paul Kelly penalty. Kelly was one of several outstanding performers for the Derry school who did not deserve to finish on the losing side. Others to perform well for Dungiven were Cian Kelly, Oisin Mc Guigan and Peter Kelly.

Coalisland battled hard against the breeze in the first half with Shane O’Neill driving forward for the all important goal on twelve minutes. Dillon Devlin gave his side plenty of options from frees and kickouts and was unfortunate not to have scored more over the hour.

The final quarter was close, intense and competitive with the Derry school creating numerous chances but not making the most of them. They came close to finding the net on a couple of occasions but good goalkeeping from Reagan Mc Cuskey and solid defensive work from Senan Daly and James Carron kept Derry lads at bay.

Final score: Coalisland 2-17, Dungiven 2-14
