Academy Lose Out In Corn na Og Decider
St.Patricks Academy Dungannon’s hopes of winning the Corn na Og title ended in disappointment at Stewartstown on Wednesday evening when they lost out to an impressive St.Pats Maghera side.
The Tyrone lads began the game well with a trio of unanswered points from Charliue Conroy, Charlie Hughes and Pearse Barrett but that was wiped out in the 7th minute with a quality goal from midfielder Adam Mulholland. Liam McAteer scored a brace of points with Conroy responded from a free before the winners assumed control. A fortunate McAteer goal was followed by a well worked major on the stroke of halftime from Senan O’Kane left it 3-7 to 1-5 at the break.
Paudi Bradley and Conroy swapped points from frees on the restart but Maghera were always in control with Mulholland adding a brace of points. Jake Mulligan scotred a superb goal for the Academy but they were fighting a losing battle despite their opponents having a man sent off. In the closing stages McAteer took his personal tally to 1-7 when he fired a penalty over the bar.
Dungannon scorers: C Conroy 0-4 (4f), J Mulligan 1-0, P Barrett 0-2 (2f), C Hughes 0-1
