St Patrick’s Academy, Dungannon 3-14
Omagh CBS 2-17 (aet, Dungannon win 5-4 on pens)

St Patrick’s Maghera 3-12
Abbey CBS, Newry 1-17

St Patrick’s Academy and St Patrick’s Maghera will contest next week’s Corn na nÓg final after semi-final action yesterday afternoon.

Omagh CBS started brightly with a goal from Cathair Gormley in the all-Tyrone tie. But Pearse Barrett eventually got the Academy going with a goal and a point in quick succession, followed by a goal from Pádraig Turner and they led by 2-5 to 1-5 at the break.

It was all square for score through the second half meaning Omagh were now going to win when they were awarded a late penalty. Daniel Colton took the spot kick and brought the game to extra-time.

Omagh hit three unanswered points during the first half and all seemed lost for Dungannon until Colton’s goal gave the Academy ahead by three at the break but Omagh rallied in the second half. Abbeyballed came late point to leave the game all square and that was that with Dungannon edging through on penalties in a thriller.

Abbey CBS got off to a dream start with goals from Patrick Morgan and Ben Fegan and points on the board before Michael Duffy opened Maghera’s account in the 15th minute. Goals from Liam McAteer and Rory Sheehan then gave Maghera a lead of 2-6 to 1-5 at the break, the Newry goal scored by Tom Keeley.

Maghera’s third goal, from Harry McCloskey, early in the second half, all but killed the game as a contest. Abbey battled gamely with fine scores from Johnny O’Hagan, Keeley, Ronan Rafferty, but another point by Conall Bellew. However, Maghera captain Darran Regan pulled off two brilliant saves to send his team through to the final.
