Last-gasp point denies Lurgan shock win
November 27, 2025
Danske Bank MacRory Cup Group B
St Patrick’s, Armagh 4-7
St Ronan’s, Lurgan 2-13
A LATE point from a Cathaoir Hughes free denied St Ronan’s, Lurgan a shock victory over unbeaten St Patrick’s, Armagh in Tullysaran last night in Group B.
St Ronan’s, after defeat in their opening two games, produced an excellent first half, led 1-10 to 2-2 at the break and were on top in most areas.
They had a variety of scorers before the break including two-pointers from Ronan O’Connor and Oisin Heaney before Sean Geoghegan banged in their goal in the 24th minute.
Goals from Matthew and Adam Hughes had barely kept Armagh in the race, but they still found the going tough in the second half until Brogan O’Kane’s goal in the third quarter extended Lurgan’s lead.
Goals came to their rescue once more with Matthew Daly and Oisín Gribben on target while Aodhán Carson-Gallagher landed a two-pointer for the city side. They trailed by two points in the fourth quarter from Brogan McCrory and had St Ronan’s up by a point until Hughes rescued the draw for St Patrick’s who will likely top the group with three wins from three games next weekend when they face Abbey CBS, Newry.
